The Congress called a 12-hour bandh in north Bengal on Friday to protest against the attack on party leaders at Mangolkot in Burdwan district by alleged CPI(M) workers yesterday. The bandh would be observed in all six districts of north Bengal – Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Malda and North and South Dinajpur.

Congress party workers have on Thursday torched buses and obstructed rail and road traffic in protest against the attack on their party legislators on Wednesday. Around 12 govt. buses have been burnt by the congress workers in many places. The workers set fire to a bus on Howrah bridge, which links Kolkata with the busy Howrah railway station. Suburban and long distance train services of eastern and southeastern railway were badly hit as party workers blocked railway tracks.
