Earthquake of 6.9 magnitude strikes Indonesia’s Sumatra

A strong 6.9-magnitude quake sparked panic in Indonesia’s western Sumatra today but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The epicentre of the quake, which struck at 0238 pm (07:38 GMT), was located 43 kilometres southeast of Siberut island off western Sumatra.

An under-construction bridge collapsed in Dehradun due to an avalanche burying 40 labourers who were later rescued by the Indo-Tibet Border Police(ITBP).
The labourers were working on the bridge being built by the PWD department on Angargad, a rivulet in the upper hills of Uttarkashi district, when an avalanche struck burying them.
