Heavy rains lash Fathegarh Sahib, Sangrur distts of Punjab

Heavy rains lashed some parts of Punjab inundating the kharif crops including paddy in several villages of Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala and Sangrur districts. The maximum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana however continued to remain above normal by one to three degrees while in Himachal Pradesh they plummeted due to fresh spells of monsoon showers. The high humditiy level was fairly high in the North West plains, The heavy downpour in Amloh sub division of Fatehgarh Sahib sub division affected the crops in villages Bharpurgarh, Chobdara, Machrai Kalan, Machrai Khurd, alakpur, Kanjari, Kapurgarhand Deva. It has been estimated that around 1500 acre land was affected by the heavy monsoon showers. Similarly in villages of Patiala district and Sangrur district the monsoon showers also inundated the crops.

Meanwhile, Hisar was the hottest place in the region at 41. 3 dgrees celsius, three degrees above normal. In other parts of Haryana, Ambala remained dry with the maximum upto 37.6 degrees celsius while Karnal had 8.0 mm rain. In Punjab, Amritsar was the hottest place at 37.8 degrees two degrees above normal. The holy city went without rain in the last 24 hours. Ludhiana recorded 18.6 mm rain in the past 24 hours while the maximum temperature in Patiala was 37.0 degrees celsius. The maximum in Chandigarh which, had some rain, was 37.2 degrees, two degrees above normal.

A report from Shimla said moderate to heavy monsoon showers lashed few parts of Himachal Pradesh during last 24 hrs in the state. Shimla and its nearby places were lashed by heavy rainfall this afternoon and recorded 51.4 mm rain. Mandi town and its surrounding areas were also lashed by rain for about two hours this morning and recorded 10 mm rain. Dharamshala and Nahan also received 2.6 mm and 2.2 mm rain respectively.
