Nandan Nilekani to head Unique ID Authority

The authority will help implement a scheme to assign a unique identification number to every Indian. It will also own and operate the database and maintain it.
Mr. Nilekani will have the rank of a Cabinet minister. Mr. Nilekani, who is the co-chairman and board member of Infosys Technologies Ltd., India’s second largest software company, will resign from both the posts, the company said in a separate statement.
