Trains canceled as Sacha Sauda violence grips Punjab, Haryana

At least half-a-dozen trains in Ferozepur railway division were today cancelled after followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda went on rampage in protest of registration of a fresh case against Dera head Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh by the CBI in connection with the murder of one Faquir Chand. The followers took to the streets and set some passenger trains afire in Punjab and Haryana.

The Railways, immediately after the violence erupted, canceled Ferozepur-Fazilka, Ferozepur-Ludhiana and Ferozepur- Jalandhar passenger trains. All the trains commencing from Ferozepur to other parts of the state have also been canceled till further orders. A private news agency reported that all trains from Uttar Pradesh going to Punjab side have been canceled while two Express trains, which had reached Ambala Cantonment station had been stopped.
