Upper reaches in Kashmir experience fresh snowfall, rain in plains

The educational institutions are scheduled to reopen tomorrow after winter vacation in the Kashmir valley, where the maximum and minimum temperature were above normal despite snow and rains.
Director MET in Kashmir Sonam Lotus said the Western Disturbance (WD) still persists over the Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining areas.
He said under the influence of this weather system, light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall on higher reaches will occur at a few places in the region and isolated places in Ladakh region till March 4. The world famous slopes experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning and intermittent snowfall was going still going on, a hotel owner told UNI over phone from Gulmarg.
He said more than a feet of fresh snowfall was recorded on the slopes during the past two days, much to the delight of those organizing skiing courses. There was about five to six feet of snow accumulated on the slopes.
However, the upper reaches in Gulmarg, including Kongdori, Apharwat and Khilanmarg experienced moderate to heavy snowfall since early this morning, official sources said.
For safety reasons, all the drivers are plying their vehicles from Tangmarg to Gulmarg with the help of chains tied with the wheels to avoid any accident as the road was slippery due to snow.
The tourists complained of inadequate arrangements and very high prices of essentials at Gulmarg. All regims in south Kashmir also experienced fresh snowfall.
